About
Statement
Leonie Klein is a bristol based, artist-maker working with clay, mixed media assemblages and collage. Her creative fervour ignites from her ongoing visceral and somatic investigation into the nature of existing. Drawing from the mythic-imaginal, she challenges the conventional cultural narrative that separates us from a passive, inert world. Her creative practice invites a more relational direct experiencing of matter and sentience, with materials as active agents, co-creating meaning through sensory encounter.
“
I am a ceramic and mixed media artist–maker, based in Bristol.
I create forms that arrive through the making, from a place beyond cognition. Each piece is a process of emergence: biomorphic, cellular, sensuous, desiring to be known rather than understood.
I embrace the tension of contradiction, seek out the mystical and mysterious, the hidden parts and half shadows, the edges… and feel drawn to linger in the space that lies in between. Making is ritual. Art a conduit; not decoration.
I believe we are shaped by the imaginal realm as much as we shape it. And view the imaginal not as fantasy and not personal property it, but as a realm we enter—an ecology we serve. We are not separate. Body not separate from Soul. Sensation not separate from meaning. Art becomes the threshold. The moment when the visible opens into the unseen. It touches and constellates the places in us that still remember. It gives shape to what might otherwise drift unseen in the margins of perception. I am interested in honesty over coherence, intimacy over perfection.”
